Casual lined zip-front jacket with wide collar (and optional hidden hood).
Pattern Sizing: 4
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions are excellent, plus there are detailed sew-along posts with extra tips and photos for each step on Sewaholic's website.
A stretch cotton from Spotlight with brown stretch denim for the inside contrast collar.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
This jacket uses the same adjustments/zip pockets as my earlier waterproof version except without the hidden hood or inside pockets. I anticipated a relatively simple sew, sans bells and whistles and having made this before... the lining however proved to be my nemesis.
First up was a roll end piece of designer lining I had on hand, only to find the grain had been badly warped affecting the fit and drape. After this was binned, I decided to use Sunsilky because I like its antistatic characteristics, especially for a jacket, but after a couple of months waiting for the dark brown to come in, I settled for an acetate with Sunsilky for the sleeves. The bodice colour is important as it can show when the collar or coat are worn open. The second lining went together nicely, that is until I realised I'd sewn 1cm side seams on the main coat (adjusted for extra ease) and 1.5cm seams (already trimmed) on the lining... the slightly fiddly but successful solution was a bias strip to add back in the difference.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, this is a deservedly popular pattern, although two is plenty for now. There are many fabulous Minoru's and you don't need to go past Google for inspiration. It is also a great starting point for other jacket/coat styles, such as the Lekaloru, Miss Jackson's Winter coat with cold barriers and fur edging on hood and Mad Housewife's anorak style.
While this make is not the most versatile jacket due to the busy print, it is a fun casual layer and a good weight for spring/autumn. Its also nice to have this UFO cut out in January finished before the Summer arrives.
