|Pattern Description: Close fitting pullover dress with tiers; sleeveless and long sleeve versions; short or longer lengths.|
Pattern Sizing:8-14. I made my usual size 10 but used 3/8" seam allowances on the sides because of the "close fitting" issue. As I've said before, think Ace bandage!
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Yes, except I made 3/4 length sleeves.
Were the instructions easy to follow?Very.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I really like this pattern. It has a nice bateau neckline and is very flattering on the body (although getting it on is a bit of a struggle!).
Fabric Used: I call this my "little gray dress", just so that I don't have yet another LBD in my closet! This is a very nice ponte from Gail K's in Atlanta. There are pontes -- and then there are pontes. I recently made a dress from a very cheap one and I had to pitch it. Just awful fabric. This, however, is very soft with a nice drape.
This charcoal gray is really hard to see in the picture. It barely shows the details. However, in person, there is enough detail to make it more interesting than just a plain gray dress.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:I chose to finish the edges of my tiers with a very narrow hem. I overlocked the edges, turned them up and stitched them down. However, this extra layer does add to the bulk in the side seams. The instructions call for pressing the side seams to the back but I found this much too bulky and ended up pressing them open.
I am not hippy so shaved off the hip curve by about 1/2" on each side.
I decided to go with the longer length since I normally wear my dresses above the knee. I had to shorten it by about 2" as it was an awkward, dowdy length otherwise. Now it hits right below the knee. I'll have to see how I like this longer style!
Sorry for no pictures of me wearing it -- but is just too hot here to layer this on with boots, etc. You'll have to imagine it!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I won't be making this again this season, but maybe in a lighter weight knit next spring/fall.
It is an easy pattern and fun to sew. All that layering is addictive. I would certainly recommend it to all levels of sewers.
Conclusion: This dress is weighty! It will be nice this winter -- with tights and boots I hope. However, it was an easy sew and will be comfortable to wear for lots of occasions this winter.
