|Pattern Description: Girl's top, romper, dress and leggings |
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I made the top, view A. It looked like the line drawing, but I eliminated the front flounce. I originally bought the pattern to sew the romper & view D dress. After taking my daughter school shopping and seeing the prices, I chose to try to sew up a few pieces to get the look for less. The top pattern happened to be very close to one I had seen at a national kids chain known for clothing and play.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes and no. The top portion was fine and I had no problems until I started the neckband. I felt the instructions and drawings were very hard to follow as the other reviewers mentioned. This being the most difficult part, a close up drawing would be better.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The neckband instruction.
Fabric Used: Brother Sister Design Studio Cotton fabric from Hobby Lobby with the neckband in a solid color. The neckband was a poly cotton blend remnant.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I opted to cut the front piece on the fold since I was eliminating the flounce. I also added about 5/8" at the center fold to allow me to gather the front. Again, I was trying to copy the top I had seen. I sewed the neckband as instructed, pinned it to the neck of the top, gathered the center and stitched. I felt like there was a few lines missing from the instructions here. It didn't state to trim the seam allowances, but it was a lot of fabric to have tucked up into a band that was meant to lay flat. I went ahead and trimmed it down. Also, rather than slip stitch the facing, I chose to top stitch both the top and bottom of the neckband to help it lay as flat as possible. In retrospect, I wonder if I had used a cotton rather than a blend, that the neckband would have laid down a bit nicer.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Maybe. I guess knowing what a pain the neckband is, I may think twice. I would recommend it, but with reservations.
Conclusion: I'm not totally thrilled with the final result. It's mostly the little things that I was too lazy to fix such as little tucks where the neckband meets the top. the pattern on the fabric is a bold colored graphic print, so it hides those little blips. It's wearable to school which is what it was intended for.
