|Let me start with the rating of this pattern - IT'S BRILLIANT - there isn't that category in the drop down list! It is also good for beginners, advanced, easy, a great wardrobe builder.|
Cap sleeved dress with neckline variations V or slash, waist-bust pleats instead of darts, six gore skirt, with variations for length. Thigh split (if you want)
UK 6-20, US 2-16. I cut the UK 14.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very. Written with personal touches and a little humour and geared towards beginners. The instructions come in a booklet form with clear diagrams and tips as you go.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
A lightweight creased woven wool (70%) with a poly blend.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Lengthened the midi dress by 7" to cover my knees. Made a 2.5" hem.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and yes.
Other versions of this dress that I've seen on the internet have been made in summer weight fabrics and worn by much younger and slimmer people than me but I was gearing mine towards the summer/autumn transitional phase and it made up just fine in the wool. I will be making this again in a heavier weight wool for real winter wear. I hope it also shows that the 40/50 and 60 yr olds out there can wear it too.
Maybe I was lucky but the pattern fit straight from the beautifully presented pattern folder. You also get a woven label to sew into your dress. Next time I will lengthen the bodice front by 1" but it's a minor gripe. The under-bust pleats are very flattering; holding in the tummy, providing a waist and blossom out in just the right place to compliment and slightly enhance the bust line.
Style this dress however you wish - boots or sandals will work equally as well and the dress is plain enough to showcase statement jewellery but also stylish enough to wear on its own. Depending on fabric choice, this will take you from summer all the way to the following spring, morning, noon or night.
I've added a little tutorial trick to keep the V neck line tight and avoid gaping on the blog Corecouture
