|Pattern Description: Misses’ unlined sleeveless dress with pleated neckline has back zipper, waistline seam and can be made with flared skirt two lengths or knee length pencil skirt with back vent. Belt options included.|
My pattern envelope is labeled as pattern # 0180. I suppose they double display some patterns with different pattern numbers to market them differently.
Pattern Sizing: 8-18. I made view E in size 12 grading to a 14 at the hips.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it does.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very easy, although I believe the left out the step for attaching the bodice to the skirt for views D and E. They have the instructions to do this step for the other views with the full skirt, but for this view, the process is slightly different with matching side seams, darts and notches. I was able to do this step of attaching the bodice to the skirt before installing the zipper with no problem as I have done it many times in other dresses before, but a beginner sewer might find this confusing and wonder where this step is on the instruction sheet.
I also was not completely satisfied with the lapped zipper instructions as they were a bit confusing and not really clear. It turned out OK though.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the pleated neckline and the simple style, plus how fast and easy it was to construct.
I don't like how they don't include seam finishes for a better constructed garment, especially since this pattern is unlined throughout. I finished the side seams after sewing them by stitching each seam allowance 1/4" from the raw edge and pinking the edges to prevent fraying. Click here to see the inside of the seams I made.
Fabric Used: 100% Cotton from Bolt Fabrics in Portland, OR.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I only adjusted the pattern a bit through the hips for fit, as well as taking it in at the upper center back to fit better here as well. Also, I tapered in at the hem to make it more of a pencil skirt.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I love this little dress and I would make it again for sure. I highly recommend it!
Conclusion: Cute little pleated neckline shift dress with several design options, plus easy to sew.
