I don't sew garments on a regular basis and haven't used a proper pattern in around 20 years or more, but I got the urge to make a dress for myself and wanted to use a pattern. I browsed the pattern books at Hobby Lobby, picked this one because it has the look I want and has "Easy" on the front. It took three days and several modifications to fit me.
I made a mock-up from an old sheet first. Going by measurements, it looks like I'm between sizes 16 and 18. I made size 14 first. It was way too large, so cut the pattern down to 10 and stitched wide seams. Then I had to let out four seams, cut the top of the shoulders to size 6, and it mostly fit the way I wanted. The bust line was too low, so I added a couple of inches all around to cover more of my chest.
I love how the dress feels and am happy enough that I'm already looking for more fabric to make another.
