|I drafted this pattern from my own blocks. There are three tucks in the bodice and draped pleats in the skirt . The front is cut as one piece, but the material used for the tucks and drapes means that the bodice part is almost at right angles to the skirt, so the front needs a whole width of fabric. |
I only had a yard and a half of this rayon/cotton print and cut the back with a waist seam and a centre back skirt seam so that I could get it all on.
It has a side zip and sewn in cap sleeves, which are self faced. It was a bit of a puzzle to work out the best construction order, but I got there in the end.
I'm very happy with the result, its nice and summery in the heat we're enjoying now. The dress was made without a toile - a bit of a gamble. I have an idea to make it again with a few changes, perhaps in a plain jersey, with sleeves.
