|Pattern Description: Frannie is a smocked dress with a high, curved yoke and slight cap sleeves. It has several collar variations. It is from Sew Beautiful, don't confuse it with Frannie from Children's corner.|
Pattern Sizing: I made Frannie's Big Sister, size 5-8.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, except for the piped collar. The envelope shows a scalloped edge on the collar.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I took a two day class with the pattern designer who taught us the trickier parts of the construction of this dress. I would not want to try this dress without having taken the class, so no, the instructions were not very easy. I was able to follow them having taken the class.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It's always good to learn new techniques, such as smocking on a curve. I don't care for the sleeves, I like them to fit a little better.
Fabric used: Bodice: When Dreams Flower by Jennie Haskins for Windham Fabrics; skirt: Castles and Carriages by South Sea Imports, piping: Empress Garden by Hoffman California International Fabrics.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None in the construction but I did design the smocking myself.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Probably not, it's a difficult pattern and I don't care for the sleeves. I would rather make a standard yoke pattern and modify to a cap sleeve.
Conclusion: It was fun to take the class, the designer is a very good teacher and is meticulous in her sewing. It will be a great dress for my granddaughter to wear to school.
