|Pattern Description: |
Loose-fitting lined pullover tops for woven fabrics. View A is a bubble-style top with lots of pleats; View B a plain batwing top.
Although I usually sew a size 16, I made M (12-14)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Better, I think -- lighter fabric, smaller bubble. Great style for women of a certain age -- hides arm flab and tummy bulge. It sits on your hips so will ride shorter in the back than front.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. I scratched my head a while over attaching the lining at the overarm opening, but the logic finally came clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This pattern is rated Easy and uses only one pattern piece for front and back and front and back lining. View B undoubtedly is easy. View A is easy as long as you aren't fazed by having to make 64 pleats. It would have been easier if they had provided a separate unpleated lining piece.
A sheer lightweight knit in summery blues -- probably polyester or nylon mesh, not sure how to describe it, lined with tricot. The pattern is not designed for knits, and no-one in their right mind would attempt all the pleats in a fine knit, but I thought the diaphanous fabric would work well to avoid the bulky bubble look. I stayed the pleats to a length of Seams Soft cut to the finished neckline and bottom edge measurements.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The pattern specifies a single layer cutting layout on the cross grain. I don't know why. I cut them on the lengthwise fold as usual. I also shortened the top 1" as I always do.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I like my top but I probably won't make another one. I might try the batwing sleeve version one day.
A cute top. I'm happy. Has anyone else made it?
