|Pattern Description: Shirtdress with full, gathered skirt, front faux button placket, short, puffed sleeves, peter pan collar and back zip.|
Pattern Sizing: 98-128
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were typical for Ottobre. I didn't follow them closely.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Likes: SO CUTE! I love all the sweet details in this dress. The collar is just the right scale, and an interesting shape. The placket is faux, which makes it really easy to sew. The skirt is full enough for twirling, and long enough for modesty on the playground. Dislikes: The little tube sash seemed strange to me. I left it off.
Fabric Used: Home Dec weight cotton from IKEA
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I left off the sash/waist tie. I also finished the neckline with bias tape rather than lining the dress. The fabric was quite thick, and I was afraid another layer would make it hot. I lengthened the skirt portion to the next size line, which I typically do for Myra, as Ottobre dresses are generally drafted a little short for her size. In the end, the dress is quite long, and I probably could have sewn it as drafted and still had a good skirt length.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This dress turned out to be much cuter than I imagined, and I had high hopes! I will definitely sew it again, and I do recommend it.
Conclusion: This sweet little shirt dress is sure to be a wardrobe classic. It's a surprisingly easy sew, since the front placket is really just a couple of pintucks!
