Pattern Description: This is a fitted cardigan with fur trim (faux fur for me).
Pattern Sizing: I used my typical size 10 for a SA cardi. It's very odd...the back fits perfect but the front pieces are small. I'm wondering if I got the wrong sized fronts because I have definitely not become bustier in the last week. I did not plan to do any buttons or snaps in the front anyway. I might just email SA and see what they say about the measurements of the fronts. So anyway, watch the sizing.
ETA 10.05.13: I have not heard back from SA regarding the sizing concern so make sure you check the measurements before you start this.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Typical SA instructions. I had to add a few things here and there. Make sure you read them through first to see if you need to modify anything.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the style and plan to wear the heck out of this cardi.
Fabric Used: This is an Eileen Fisher 73rayon/21nylon/6spandex bought from EOS last year. The faux fur also came from EOS 2 years ago.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Step 6 of the instructions...I basted the collar to the neck edge then did the binding. The binding piece seems small but they want you to fold it in half, sew to the outside neck edge, turn it to the inside thereby enclosing the entire raw neck edges. I stitched it by machine at this point and it looks fine. Keep in mind if your fur is of the thicker variety you might need to cut a wider neck binding piece. The stitching is under the collar on the outside so does not show.
I wanted to topstitch down the fronts so I finished the inside edge of the facing and finished the bottom facing/hem area. The upper edge of the facing is a little fiddly so you will need to figure out how you want to finish that...I turned it to the inside and caught it in my topstitching.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would like to make this again but I will figure out the front sizing issue first. I would recommend it but keep in mind there are some wonky areas to deal with.
Conclusion: I am officially in Fall sewing mode and like this finished product very much. If you run across any Eileen Fisher ponte it is very nice to work with.
