Pattern Description: misses unlined sleeveless dress with pleated neckline has back zipper, waistline seam and can be made with flared skirt two lengths or knee length pencil skirt with back vent. Belt options included.
Pattern Sizing: 8 - 18, I made a size 12 bodice and did something different for the skirt.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes the neckline part did.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn't look at the instructions but they seemed OK.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really like the neckline shape and the darts across the neckline that act as both as bust darts and design darts. they did lay flat which is the most important thing in this type of neckline design. I really like the way the straps/shoulders fit on this dress. New Look patterns fit me really well in the upper bodice, and they don't make the shoulder straps too thick on sleeveless style the way Simplicity patterns often do. I think they are more feminine and graceful in their details despite being relatively simple (make that easy - intermediate) patterns.
Fabric Used: rayon jersey originally I intented to make a t-shirt with, but it seemed just right for a tropical holiday dress.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did redraw the back neckline to create a lower square neckline to match the design of the front. I could have made it a bit lower. I lengthened the bodice to add a bit of blousing at the waist. I added about 3" total at the waist of the bodice (divided between the front and back, partly by leaving out the back waist darts in the bodice) to also add to the blousey feel. I was going to put a drawstring at the waist but I was trying to make this a "3 hour" dress so I didn't do that. I cut squares for the skirt and just slightly gathered them into the waist. With the scraps remaining I cut a thin tie belt. Also I did a full lining in a lightweight knit so no facings (and no see-through, there is a slight burnout effect on the fabric so it would be a bit peek-a-boo if no lining. Also I omitted the zipper because the neckline was a bit wider and also the waist so I could get it over my head. If made in a woven, in the fitted version as designed the zipper is necessary.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I will likely sew it again, great bodice pattern and could be matched with any skirt style.
Conclusion: Very happy with this use of my t-shirt fabric and glad I found this pattern.
