|Pattern Description: |
A classic shirtwaist dress with romantic styling. Front darts fit it to the figure, while the small notched collar and sophisticated back add a touch of class.
38-46 - I cut a 38
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, but like the other reviewers, none of the photos show the gathered back. Although dress 128 in the same issue does use the same back piece, and actually shows a photo of it.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
For once, I actually used the instructions. I wouldn't say easy but I muddled through.
The collar was a little fiddly - but basically the curve of the collar stand fits into the convex of the collar.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The collar is beautifully drafted once the dress is all put together. I liked that this is a fairly classic shirt waist dress, but with a few details to make it unique.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Alterations: I made a small bust adjustment by making the dart 1cm shallower.
I want to say that this pattern runs small, because when I tried the dress on, it didn't want to close over the hips! Eek!
Luckily, instead of having to go on a miracle diet to help me loose the Winter Padding, I just let out the side seams by 7mm (giving me an extra ~3cm all over)
So much quicker and I can still eat what I want!
But now that I think about it - I tend to cut 36 in bodice and taper to 38 at the hip, and this bodice fit fine as a 38, so maybe it is smaller fit. Then again, I may just have gained some Winter fluff.
I shortened the hem to above the knee - their length just doesn't suit me.

Front - with Cara the Labrador.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I definitely want to sew this again. Although for the next version I might make the skirt a-line and convert the back gathers to darts.
I can see this dress becoming a staple in the summer time. Shirt dresses rock!
