I made this for the Fabric Mart Fashion contest. The first challenge was to make something from scraps, recycled or unusual fabrics. The results just came out and are very creative. You can see them all and vote for your favorite at Fabric Mart I hope lots of people will vote and show support for the sewing community!
Anyway, about the dress. I chose this pattern because I needed to make something from a pile of remnants I had on hand, which were the rules for the contest. You can see more pictures and read about my whole process of putting this together at Peg's Blog
This pattern is definitely NOT for the faint of heart sewer. I think it should be marked "advanced" rather than "average" because of the many pieces that have to be put together correctly. My advice is to leave the pattern on each piece until you are ready to use it. Also,if both sides are the same use some way to mark the right sides.
There really is not much chance to alter it, except for adding length onto all the bottom pieces. You can put the lining together first (not as many pieces) and make sure it fits okay.
Part of my problem was that I used so many different kinds of fabric. The leather inserts in particular were difficult to get right. No matter what fabric is used, I think it looks better if all the pieces are underlined.
After all the work though, I was VERY pleased with my finished product and would make it again if I didn't already have one!
