|Pattern Description: |
Misses' fitted shirt with collar, collar stand, shaped hemline, princess seams
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Better, in my opinion.
I am sorry there is no better photo of me wearing the finished shirt to show off the wonderful fit, but here it is on holiday, together with two detail photos of the sleeve and lower hem notches.
Sleeve hem notch
Lower hem notch
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, as long as you've made shirt collars with stands before.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Despite my misgivings, I cut the princess seam version (front and back) and it fits beautifully. In fact making this princess seam shirt has completely put me off dart-fitted shirts!
The most wonderful cotton/linen fabric I have ever used. It holds a crease, irons like a dream, handles beautifully. If I could source some more of this, I would make another shirt for my husband.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made the princess seams version D but with the following design changes: the side panels were cut on the bias to show off the stripes; I made my own notched short sleeve hems, and also notched side seams at the lower hem.
I also made the collar 1/4 inch less deep, as recommended by a lady here on PR who had made this shirt before. This tiny alteration worked very well indeed.
The buttonholes came out well too, despite the buttonhole band not being interfaced. I applied a drop of fray-check as recommended here by so many people - thank you!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
DEFINITELY! Making this shirt again is my next project, this time with long sleeves.
Great pattern which I will make again.
