|Pattern Description: |
Close-fitting, A-line, above mid-knee length dress has front ruffles, pleats, exposed darts, back straps, princess seams, back zipper and contrast waistband with bow
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, the instructions were pretty great actually. Very straightforward and informative. Even though this pattern is listed as easy, it isn't a quick make but does have lovely finishes inside and out!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I really liked the ruffles which turned out pretty nice I think. They're elegant and feminine without being frilly and too frou frou. I also really like the straps being a bit more substantial and how they're attached closer to the back zipper.
A polyester stretch charmeuse. I probably should have used a stretch fabric but it was what I had in my stash when I got the urge to begin this dress back in April.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I only included three ruffles and lowered the remaining three so each one was a little less gathered than it otherwise would have been. I also removed ~1" from the shoulder straps. The shoulder straps were the last thing I sewed since I wanted to wait and see how the rest fit (the top was VERY low cut before this alteration).
If I would have made a muslin I would have learned that I should change the skirt, probably to a half-circle skirt. The semi-trumpet style with princess seams did not flatter my figure at all and draped wonky in the back (probably because I should have interfaced before inserting the zipper as well).
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would consider sewing the bodice again (with alteration) if I needed another cocktail dress but definitely change the skirt. And I would recommend it to others, I think it is a lovely design, the pattern is easy to follow, and the final product turns out so beautiful (inside/outside!)
A fun, feminine cocktail dress. More info on my blog.
