|Pattern Description: A semi-fitted blouse with neckline and sleeve variations. Darts create a fitted silhouette without being too tight, with an optional tie belt to cinch the waistline. Closes at the side with an invisible zipper.|
Pattern Sizing: 0-16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I made view C, the long sleeve scoop neck version without the collar.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, although I had a very hard time figuring out how to attach the cuffs since it was my first time doing sleeve cuffs, but once I figured it out, it was like magic.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the fit on this top, it is form flattering without being too tight.
The only thing that I'm not crazy about is the facing, because my fabric is not opaque, you can see it through the shirt. But ... it doesn't look bad. I would have preferred to bind the neckline, but was worried the fabric wouldn't stand up to being pulled over my head repeatedly without the structure of a facing. An alternative would have been to move the side zip to the back and then I could have bound instead of faced the neckline. Next time ...
Fabric Used: A textured Japanese cotton with a bit of stretch from Gorgeous Fabrics. It is a semi-sheer woven, so I plan on wearing it with a nude cami underneath for work. I used every bit of the 2 1/2 yards of 45" fabric called for.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I cut a size 8 everywhere except the shoulder seam, where I cut a 4 to take off 1/2 of length between neckline and bust - this is a typical alteration for me. I also added 1/2" neck darts in the back.
For the sleeve placket, I folded back the placket on the overlap side when attaching the cuff, so that the plackets fell in a nice straight line when buttoned - I don't think the instructions mentioned doing so.
I made the belt, which turned out well and is cute but it doesn't look great with the top because I am short-waisted and petite, so it chops me up too much.
A note on length: I am 5"3" and the blouse hits at just the right length for me to wear untucked with low-mid rise jeans and only because I did a baby turned hem of 1/4 inch. I think that taller folks would need to add length if planning to wear with pants/skirts worn 1" or more below your waistline.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, with all of the sleeve and neck variations I can see this pattern getting lots of use.
Great pattern from Sewaholic.
