I was inspired by the folded mini-skirt pattern at nlythesmall.blogspot.com.au. Plus I was watching Dr Who and Amy Pond is ALWAYS in a mini skirt. But I'm not mini-skirt material I feel, especially when thinking about work wear. So I went more knee length pencil skirt.
Instead of pleating the main fabric piece I made a pencil skirt pattern with a centre front panel and a centre back panel with two kick pleats and then draped over the top and hand stitched on.
The fabric is a tight knit in a deep royal blue that I found at a garage sale. It has very little stretch.
I think I paid less than $5 for this fabric. While I love the colour I'm hesitant about wearing it. I'm just not sure how to coordinate with it. Maybe when I'm back into the work routine after months off I'll feel more comfortable in it - I feel it might be I'm so used to wearing jeans.
I do love the interest added by the pleated section but I'll have to get some friends reassurances that it doesn't seem to add to my hips.
