|Pattern Description: |
Threads Collection. Misses' & Plus Size dress or top, pants, jacket, scarf and knit cardigan sewing pattern. This is my review of the dress.
10-18 -- I made 14 all though.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, quite close in silhouette.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Quite easy, but steps and images laid out side by side instead of as one so I did have to pay attention at first.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It is very straightforward, and had clean lines which I wanted because my fabric was busy. But there was also room to add some shaping in the seam lines. I like that it is part of a whole wardrobe too.
Dislike: a few picky things -- the neckline and armhole facings are not facings, they are binding strips, and I found them a bit finicky. Probably would just turn under the sleeve edges next time, but would still finish the neckline.
A pretty gold/brown/blue polyester print that I really liked -- but found out that it's quite exacting to sew such a slippery fabric! Luckily there were minimal seam lines to tackle.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I cut the front panel on the fold, as it was a straight line and the fabric seemed to me to be better off without a front seam line. While I was at it I also took 1/2 inch in at the neckline as I usually find that I have a gap there. I also remembered to reflect that in the neck binding strip. It seemed to work, it lays quite nicely!
And of course I added pockets. Side seam pockets out of the same fabric.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'd probably sew this again -- it went fairly quickly and I like the fit. If I used a less slippery fabric I'd do a bit more fitting in the bodice area but I didn't want to make any mistakes so left it. And it turns out that I like it this way, it's comfortable and easy to move in.
This was a pattern I've owned for a while -- the mini wardrobe contest inspired me to look at this pattern again, and I love my new dress!
