|My mini wardrobe consists of a skirt, a blouse, a dress and a cardigan.|
I was inspired by this contest to see if I could indeed sew 4 coordinating items in a month. All of the fabric except for my dress was from my stash, and the patterns, except the Sorbetto, were also from the pattern stash.
My theme was drawn from the fabrics I was thinking of using, from what I owned: starting with the brown floral skirt fabric and coordinating from there. Also, things I could put together to wear to work (I knew I had to have a cardigan!)
Dress: Simplicity 2474
Cardigan: Simplicity 2474
Skirt: New Look 6843
Blouse: Colette 0003 (Sorbetto)
I was trying to push myself a little to try some of the basic skills that I tend to avoid (ie: zips, linings) with this challenge as well. So, New Skills Used:
--> My first zipper! I've avoided these for way too long. The skirt required a centre back zipper and I'm so pleased it was so easy to do.
--> Lining: I added a lining to the skirt pattern, using inspiration from this book. It was fairly straightforward but I love the way it turned out.
--> My first go with a downloadable pattern (Sorbetto). Used this pattern plus an additional sleeve tutorial found online. I actually made a muslin to sort out the fitting issues before cutting my fabric of choice. The Sorbetto also gave me a chance to try self bias trim which I have always meant to do but never have.
Had fun challenging myself this month!
