Pattern Description: Amazing fit shirt with collar, sleeve and pocket variations
Pattern Sizing: H5 (6 to 14) I made size 10 but ended up taking in more off the back darts for a snugger fit ( I have a hollow back) and about 1cm off each side seam from the waist down.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I made view B but added 2 breast pockets so yes but with the pocket addition.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The best thing I found with this pattern was the professional application of the yoke. This method was new to me and I was totally impressed with how easy it was to do and the professional finished result. Obviously the fit options are a bonus with this pattern but I am a fairly standard shape so didn't need to make too many adjustments. Nothing to dislike other than the pattern envelope photos do not do this pattern justice!
Fabric Used: The reason for making this shirt was because I had never made a shirt in a checked fabric before. I used a brushed cotton. (Sorry I couldn't find this fabric in the drop down menu) I didn't realise it until I came to cut it out, but the striped pattern is not symmetrical! The stripes down are just one way making it impossible (for me!) to have symmetrical fronts.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made view B and shortened the length of this shirt as I have no intention of tucking it in! I also added 2 breast pockets using the pocket pattern illustrated in View C. In hindsight I should have cut the front band on the bias like I did for the pockets. I think it would have looked nicer this way.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I probably won't make it again because I have to wear shirts all the time for work! So wearing shirts for pleasure is not attractive to me!
I had never made a shirt in a checked fabric before and although this pattern has all the detail I wanted: collar with stand, yoke, front placket and pockets, I have done what I wanted to achieve. I would pick a different style of shirt next time.
I would however recommend this pattern. Its easy to do, excellent instructions and Its a great wardrobe builder.
