|This is one of my garments for the Mini-Wardrobe contest.|
Lined, Chanel style jacket in waist or cropped length, tie or button and loop fastening. Cuffed sleeves just below elbow or three quarter length.
Size 6-20, 32-46 continental. I made a size 38
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes except I made mine reversible rather than lined.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
To the point.
What I like about the pattern
I was looking for a simple pattern that had no collar so I could use my reversible fabric.
There are back neck darts and the centre back seem is curved, great for a curved back.
What I dislike
This is a stretch brocade which is reversible – one side olive and black, the other blue and black. I have had this in my stash for a couple of years whilst I worked out how to use it.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made
I made the sleeves full length.
I took about 2cm in on the back armscy by rotating the dart formed, into the neck dart.
I made extra bottom facings for the side front and back so that I could make a continuous facing all the way round. I did this because if I turned the fabric hem, the colour of the turned hem would not match the sde of the fabric it was turned to.
I increased the front width, I should not have done this. My muslin fabric was not as stretchy as the finished garment.
I made the pockets larger so my iphone would fit. I only put pockets on the side which has the facing hem.
I widened the neck width by removing about 0.5cm all round the neck – this seemed like a good idea, but after I had put the band facing on, I realised it was a mistake. Too late to correct it. It makes it look a little to big when I am wearing it, but I think that when it has a jumper underneath this will be fine.
Fitting the sleeves was quite challenging because I had to make the seam reversible. I was quite proud of the finished flat fell seam.
I sewed the darts as usual then on the green side, I topstitched the darts down for a decorative finish.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Burda jackets fit me really well. This was no exception. It is simple style which really shows off a special fabric. I will probably sew it again, I think it is out of print but I bought it as a download on Sewingpatterns.com
. I would recommend it if you can get hold of it.
This is a new style for me, I may make a lined version.
I have learned: make your muslin in a fabric similar to the intended garment. Making it in rigid calico meant the finished stretch garment is a little big.
