|Vogue 1282. A BIG UGH. This looked fantastic on the model, but I’d make the following recommendations:|
• Negative ease on the skirt
• If you don’t want to wear a cowl-neck top where the drapes are down at your stomach and waist and not at the neckline, DON’T MAKE THIS TOP.
I just shifted where the cowl hangs. It looks like a sack on me. Unfortunately, ALL of Donna Karan’s designs look better on long-torsoed women, like herself. I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum, so many times her designs make me look frumpy. I gave away one of the tops to a friend with my cowl modification. I think she looks far better in it than I did. The second top I’m going to seam rip down to the flat fabric and make a miniature version of the skirt for a very short friend, who LOVES the design for dancing tango, but is too short to fit into the pattern’s smallest size. So, we’re just going to approximate it. I’ll post a photo to this article when it’s done. (Even though it’ll be out of order chronologically, at least it won’t be as difficult to relocate it, even with tags).
I gave one of the skirts away to someone taller with more hips than I have. I’m pretty flat from top to bottom with very little nipped-in at the waist. I thought this would look fine b/c of the Figure Flattery silhouettes at the back of the pattern, but, it just doesn’t work for me. I actually look better in the slippery-shiny lycra blue one. I’ll eventually include a photo.
I give this a “meh, I’ve worn sexier outfits.” I WOULD NOT recommend that most people make this. There’re a people that it looks fantastic on (as I’ve seen online) and quite a few people that it looks ok, but it just isn’t what I wanted for myself. I find it too fussy and not stylish, a bit too oversized and off-target. I’m glad I made it because now I’ll be less seduced into buying more patterns — particularly DKNY patterns. I still find that a few patterns done several times look decent on me and that I might as well just stick to those. For me, it’s Vogue 8634 or Vogue 9795. I should tighten my tops now that I’ve lost a bit of weight, but even Vogue 2762 has a more flattering cowl placement than this pattern!
