|A brief introduction: I am making both jacket and skirt for my sister's wedding. I am doing a separate review of the jacket. Given the amount of work spent on the skirt I thought a thorough description was in order.|
Fitted, partially interfaced, lined to edge jacket, with raised back neckline and front lapels, detail front and back with princess seams and flared sleeves with seam. Semi-fitted lined skirt with detail seams, back pleats, contour waist, side zipper closing and mid-knee length.
My description: only attempt if you are ready to modify, and spend some serious time pinning, pressing and sighing over the number of steps to get this finished.
14-20. I made the 14.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. Wish I could get it entirely crease free.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Not the greatest. Spelling mistakes, pattern piece for skirt labelled for jacket. No instructions for how to finish lining pleat.
No instructions on how to press pleats (they are a pain). Why does it say to slip stitch the lining to the zip??
Why it has you cut out the lining the same length at the skirt, then baste and trim off the excess (what a waste) I really dont know. I overlocked the whole lot off then did a normal seam allowance sized hem.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The design. Didnt like amount of time spent making it!
A wool woven. Which has proven rather difficult to press flat and creases (PAIN!)).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Lets get started:
Lengthened by 8cm
Reduced size form 16 (according to my pattern measurements the size I should be) to a 14 as my toile (already reviewed) ran large
tapered side seams from mid thigh to hem by 1 cm on each side seam
made lining yoke piece out of fashion fabric for extra oomph
shortened zip to 7 inches. Long side zip NOT flattering.
added interfacing to all of pleat area for extra stiffness
Removed excess hip fluff problem reported by other reviewers by using french curve to establish what was not needed
added bias tape to hem to neaten finish
accidentally added zip to right side.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
No, one is enough!! very nice design, approach with caution. I bought this as a beginner but put it to one side thinking I'd need more experience. Thank goodness I waited until now.
Anyone got any tips to prevent creasing!? I want this to stay put once I wear it.
