MARITA KNIT DRESS: This easy fit stylish cowl dress with interesting twist effect at the waist has a high back collar that hugs the neck and falls into a soft cowl at the front. The twist pleat at the waist makes this dress a fashion garment.
I used the sizing chart on their website and the 14 fit me perfectly. I was nervous about this because it isn't a multisize pattern, you have to choose a size to order. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? not really, but I like how it looks. The pattern envelope had a drawing that gives the impression that it's symmetrical with two 'draped' or 'gathered' sections crossing over, but actually there's only one and the other side is a dart. Also the envelope shows a 3/4 sleeve, but there is only a long sleeve pattern piece and you can shorten it to where you want it. Easy enough to do and I'm glad for the suggestion on the envelope.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were and I'm a total beginner so if I could make it then anyone can. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
There is so much I like about it. I like that it took me 2 hours to make (it will take most people only an hour as it says on the envelope I'm sure) I love that its such an unusual shape and putting it together i just couldnt wait to see how it would all work out. Ive recently had a baby and this is the perfect post pregnancy dress. The draping detail hides the baby belly and the cowl neck while covering up enough can pull down easily for breast feeding. Fabric Used:
T shirt type knit fabric. Our local stores don't have info with the fabrics, you just have to buy by feel and I'm a novice and not great at this stuff so sorry for being so vague. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made the draping part a bit lower down after several hand basting a and fittings. I think it's the weird postpartum figure, but higher up the fold went over half my bust and made me look weird and lopsided lol. Lower down it covers my flab Also I shortened the sleeve to 3/4 because we are going into summer. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'm definitely going to make a long sleeve version. And totally would recommend it. Really fun, great pattern Conclusion:
Really fun pattern that looks impressive, but really isn't
