|Pattern Description: Bias Cut, knee length, Empire A Line Dress with gathered front bodice with a rossette looking band under bust with lined bodice front Pieces and of course that wonderful Boning|
Pattern Sizing:Misses sizes: 12, 14, 16 &20
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? more or less, I used a green chiffon overlay on the bodice front.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very easy, even the rosette band
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I really liked the front band and gathering of the bodice but I didn't like the way it fit so large on the girls, had to take everyone of them in,(I used the upper bust measurement on 2 of the girls) and with boning this was a lot of work. The other part I disliked was the zipper. I ended cutting off every zipper to above the tail bone as the fabric bulged on each of the girls except for the size 20 girl hers laid flat very niclely. I also had to add 4" to the hip area for this young lady.+ Within a few days, one of the girls could loose or gain weight, she had a bulge on the wedding day and 2 days prior fit perfect. I feel that there may have not been enough ease room on ther hip part of the dresses. And like another review, I did a lot of praying as I removed zippers in and out and in and out again.
Black Taffetta and Green Chiffon overlay
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: back to waist changed on the girls, FBA on some of the girls and fitting the bodice smaller on all the girls
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? In my opinion, NO, the frustration I had I wouldn't recommend this. I found different sites on how to sew in a zipper on a bias cut, one dress worked OK with the suggestions, but the other didn't.
Conclusion: They are beautiful dresses but don't be surprised when the frustration comes with the zipper placement and when you put in the lining, let it just hang, everytime I attached it to the zipper, I had Bulges. For someone who wants to do this pattern, don't cut it on the bias, I don't think you need it and will stop all the frustrations in the zipper areas. In the end, I was happy to do this for my son, sure glad I allowed plenty of time to sew them and I got a new sewing cabinet out of the deal, my DH didn't like my grumbling, he prefers me to be in another room. LOL Happy Sewing
