String Bag Pattern Sizing:
Mini-13"x11" Small-14 3/4"x 13 1/4" Medium-17"x14 3/4"
I made the medium. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except for my modifications. Were the instructions easy to follow?
Sort of. I got tripped up a bit. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked that it was simple and had options. I liked that they encouraged finishing the seam allowances and added extra stitching for strength. I liked the 1/2" straps & that they were sewn together but it should have had that option earlier in the construction. Setting the straps into the corner was not as easy for me as the directions made it seem. I had to pull it apart & do it again. It may have been because I used a heavy fabric. It also called for the straps to be cut the length of the bag but that was too short. Fabric Used:
White cotton duck for the bag and black webbing and red ribbon for the straps. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Left off the pockets and lining. I added seam bindings from scraps. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Definitely and yes. Conclusion:
I had a happy accident by putting the top seam to the outside and ended up covering it with a seam binding made from scraps. I also covered the seams on the inside for a really nice smooth finish. Its a much better, easier, quicker bag than I made & I'll make it every year my son needs one. I may even make one for myself.
