|Pattern Description: |
Men's shirt, vest, and coat
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Some, but an outside tutorial is needed for the welt pockets on both the jacket and the vest.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I made the same size for all three pieces, but while the shirt and vest fit, I ended up having to alter the coat in the middle back. I did not make a muslin or measure the coat pattern before cutting, so that is my fault, but I found it odd that the sizing didn't mesh with all three pieces. Lesson learned!
I used linen for the shirt, a silk/velvet brocade for the vest, and wool coating for the jacket.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I changed the welt pockets and expanded the middle back of the coat by inserting a triangle to make it wider after I put the coat mostly together.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, but not for brand new sewers. Some of the instructions are vague, and the welt pockets won't work at all as described.
This is for a steampunk Halloween costume for my husband, and he finds it comfortable enough for that purpose. It was pretty easy to put together, and I also made an ascot to go with the vest which I patterned from an existing tie of his.
