|I have been working on making clothes that fit. Well I am plus sized lady, I have ben making my clothes 3 times bigger than usual. I have been focusing more on taking measurements and self drafting patterns to get a better fit. |
I love to wear skirts. Last year I moved from Northern BC to living the island life in BC. I told my husband that I wanted to wear more skirts since I am not dealing with black flies and mosquitoes in the summer and freezing temperatures in the winter. This is a simple a-line skirt, it hits around my ankles so I can stay a bit warmer in the dampness. I like the look of simple lines on this skirt with a fun pattern. It is a dark brown, hot pink leaves and orange birds. I added an appliqued bird to echo the bird in the fabric, and embroidered the words LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE. Maybe to go with the hippish style that is worn on the Island.
I have arthritis of the spine and choosing to add elastic in at the waist instead of zippers that I find hard to reach at times no matter if they are at the side or back. I used a soft pj pant elastic and kept it pretty close to my waist measurements in order to keep the fabric from pleating but enough to pull on over my hips. The applique was hand drawn and put on with iron on interfacing and stitches down with a decorative stitch. The skirt did not take very long to make.
I did make a paper pattern since I wanted one for later on. I dated it and wrote my measurements on it. But will check the measurements when I make another one.
This was a fun project and one that I will wear often.
