|Pattern Description: |
Knee length dress with a shawl collar, long sleeves and optional flapped patch pockets at the waist.
You only get two sizes when you purchase a particular pattern, I bought sizes 38/40 and made a size 38 (based on my bust). It fits great and is very comfortable actually.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, I think it did.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Instructions are written only, no illustrations but this dress was fairly simple to put together anyway. I did follow the instructions and they make sense if you take your time and really interpret every phrase. The instructions even led me though my first sleeve placket easily!
I've been very impressed with the drafting of Named patterns, the two I've made have come together so well with all pieces fitting wonderfully and seams matching up easily.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved the interesting collar with plunging neckline, the hemline, and the pockets. I just thought it was overall a fresh and new style I hadn't seen before.
A novelty blue wool crepe from Fabric Mart. I even had it professionally pressed before using! (I'm not usually that devoted or patient
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I was feeling impatient and didn't want to make a muslin so I cut my fashion fabric and hoped for the best, which worked out great. I also didn't have to worry about the length of the skirt because they are designed for a relatively tall height. I might tack down the collar because the collar facing keeps wanting to pop out. I also lowered the neckline because it just fit right in my opinion.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Not sure whether I would sew it again because it is a very distinctive style but I would recommend it to others. It is easy to sew, and in my case, fit great right straight from the pattern.
I unfortunately didn't buy and couldn't find the right belt for this dress for the pictures and because of the blouse underneath, I don't love the added weight to my figure. Other than that, I love the style of this fun dress!
Interesting, fresh and new dress from a fun new company! See my blog for more details and pictures!
