This is an easy wintery dress pattern for a stretchy knit fabric. It has long sleeves, a cowl collar and an empire waist line with a pleated skirt. Pattern Sizing:
I chose to do size 24 because I am used to working with woven fabric. Having made it up I now wish I had made it two sizes smaller as the bodice is too big under the arms, but it is still very wearable. Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions in this pattern were easy to follow. It has you stitch the bodice to the skirt BEFORE the side seams which seems odd at first but once you put in the elastic at the waist it becomes clear that you need to keep the seam allowances all going in the one direction to create a continuous tunnel for the elastic to slide within. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I really like the pleated skirt and it wouldn't be the same without the tab and two buttons at the back. The elastic through the waist really helps to create a better fit so don't miss that step. Fabric Used:
I used a thick two way stretch cotton knit. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added 4" to the hemline.
I eliminated the collar and sleeves to create a tunic style dress. To accommodate these changes I needed to cut the front neckline a little higher and taper the sleeve openings in a little towards the shoulder. I have taken photos of these changes and posted them here on my blog called Nessa's Place. I now wish that I had also removed a bit of the pattern from the underarm/side of the bodice as there is still a bit of excess fabric there that was probably meant to help with the ease and stretch in the sleeve. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would definitely make this again and can highly recommend it! Conclusion:
A quick and easy knit dress that hides all my big bits and is comfortable to wear. I feel confident in it too.
