|Pattern Description: |
Reversible petal jacket. You have a choice for petal hem or regular hem. I chose petal.
"This reversible jacket with cuffed sleeves has 2 layers: 1 polar or sweatshirt fleece and 1 jersey or knit layer. Unlike ponchos with no sleeves, this jacket has cuffs to prevent it from twisting, but is still loose enough to keep your child from getting too hot. "
Also, "you might want a plush fleece or sweatshirts fleece on one side and fashion fabrics such as a printed knit or corduroy the other. For rainy weather, you can use a coated weatherproof fabric on one side and a pretty cotton print on the other"
From new born to 4T. I made 12 month
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
How to sew underarm is a little tricky as the instruction says. It is hard to stitch as the illustration shows, but somehow I managed.
Fleece and Interlock knit from Hancock fabric. I was really not sure what fabric to choose. It really did not specify and can be any combination as above . In their website, I saw someone's work made from fleece and quilt fabric type cotton. I wanted to have soft touch, so finally chose interlock.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes. Very cut, easy and practical. I cut out fabric one weekend, and worked on a bit during the weekdays at night then finished sewing up on the 2nd weekend. Sewing petal hem is not difficult at all. Just drive the machine slowly.
Setting snaps is also easy if you have a snap setter. You can take a look at their website. I ordered the pattern, rib for the hood, and snaps.
I was not sure what kind of stitches I should use. But I ended up using straight stitch for fleece and two fabrics to combine, and very narrow (almost straight) zigzag for interlock only.
Very easy and I really like the cuff to show the other fabric and reversible. I will sew every winter till 4T !!! I also may try a laminate cotton version for spring plus to practice the new fabric type.
