|Pattern Description: Women's flattering stretch jeans with slim fit through the hips and thigh and a flared leg, back and side front pockets, zip fly with button closure.|
View A has a low rise (2-3 inches below the navel) and View B has a regular rise (at the navel). I made the normal rise version (View B)
Pattern Sizing: 27 sizes from Girls sizes (age 2) up to Womens size FF (hip = 53") I made size AA.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were great and the drawing are very helpful. I followed their fly instructions except for 2 tiny tweaks. When sewing the zipper to the right fly extension (Step 25) I did not stitch as close as possible to the zipper teeth, but stitched about 1/4" away instead. Then on Step #27 when sewing the zipper to the left fly extension, I did the same thing--1/4" away rather than as close as possible to the teeth. This pushed the zipper away from the edge of the fly overlay and hides the zipper better, so it won't peek out as easily.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The design is great, the fit is great and the instructions are great. No dislikes.
Fabric Used: Denim with 3% Lycra
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Since my fabric was so stretchy, I cut the waistband on grain rather than on the bias and interfaced it.
I added some width at the hip and front of the thigh since my full hip is lower than the pattern's.
I shortened the leg length by 3" (centered at the knee) since I am short.
I trimmed down the leg flare to half of the original flare.
After assembling the jeans and prior to attaching the waistband, I found the back yoke sticking out with a huge gap. Since my 2 muslins didn't do that, I have to blame the stretchiness of the fabric. I took 2 darts in the back yoke to remove the gap, and then added the waistband.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and YES! I love that I made jeans! They need a few tweaks, but they fit so much better than any RTW jeans that I own! I will take care of the tweaks in my next version
Conclusion: I Love these jeans! To me, there is too much stretch in the denim, so I will use denim with incrementally less than 3% lycra until I find the perfect percentage.
There is no reason to be intimidated by making jeans, the instructions are very thorough and detailed. It would be even easier if I had a 2nd sewing machine set up with topstitching thread so that I wouldn't have to switch back and forth so many times. In conclusion...Everyone should make JEANS!
