|Pattern Description: |
Gentle princess dress with puff sleeves. Noble damsel's dress with decorative lacing, divided skirt and slit sleeves.
Sizes 6-12. I believe I made a 7
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, although I changed the sleeves.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. This was the first time I had used a Burda pattern in YEARS (18 or so) so I was a little hesitant, but it turned out really well.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The bodice fits SO well, I was impressed. I didn't like the fact that they had you use seam binding on the neckline. Of course I used a thin satin since this was a costume, and the seam binding was heavier than the satin. If I had to do it over, I would probably line the bodice.
Costume satin. It fit the budget nicely, but was much too thin. It'll work for this, but I doubt I'll ever be using it again.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
My daughter wanted to be Glenda from Oz the Great and Powerful. Of course there's no patterns out like it now (I'm sure there will be next year), so this was the closest I found. However, she didn't like these big sleeves, so we cut them down. I was afraid I made them too narrow, but they worked.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
It really is a nice pattern, and that bodice fit her so well that I might use that as a template for other dresses. It definitely makes me want to sew more Burda patterns, but I doubt I need to make this particular one again. Although you never know.
It was a nice pattern that went together fairly quickly, I was surprised. The hardest part was taking my daughter's idea of what she wanted and compiling parts of the pattern to make it work. I had a list of what pattern pieces should be which color!
