|Pattern Description: |
MISSES' PANTS: Semi-fitted, below waist, tapered pants have waistband variations and elasticized back. Topstitching. Front, back, pocket bands: cut on crosswise grain.
8-16 I cut a size 12. I did not make a muslin but did try on the paper pattern. I used a tip from SewingCanary to stabilize my pattern pieces with iron-on-interfacing for durability. This allowed me to clip the curves on the pattern pieces and pin them together to try on (without tearing the pattern). It seemed to fit all right but I decided to shorten the crotch at the lengthen/shorten line by 1". I like my waistband a little lower. They ended up after that adjustment at about 1" below my belly button. As on the pattern picture I also turned my pattern pieces on the opposite grain for contrast.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, very much
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were good, except for the waistband. That was a little goofy, but I just stitched in the ditch. Not sure what they were saying to do.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that the pants have the side insets that can be used to add interest to the pants. I love the back elastic only, so the front stays smooth.
A lovely embossed black poly/spandex knit from JoAnn's Fabrics.
The fabric and pattern were a good marriage-Yay!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I cut the 12, but took the side seams in 1". Also shortened crotch 1". I found the length barely long enough and I am only 5'3" so beware of that.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I think that I will make these again in a stretch denim.
Conclusion: I like this pattern a lot. I like these pants a lot. The only observation I will make is that the design is sorta "not" slimming. The horizontal pockets add an illusion of width at the hip area and a shortish length shirt or tucked in shirt looks best because of the way the pockets stick out to the side. I have been debating back and forth if I like this pattern or Vogue 8837 better. I have been wearing these a lot, because they are very comfortable.
