|Pattern Description: |
Misses top with neckline variations in two lengths and and tie belt.
Sizes 8 - 16
I made view E in size 8
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not really, the illustration on the packet would tend to suggest more shaping and length while my finished top was a short boxy shape.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
For the most part the instructions were clear, although step 17 is rather notorious, with many other reviewers commenting that it is back to front and/or very confusing. Having been suitably warned, I was very careful with this step and, as one reviewer suggested, really looked at the illustration until it seemed to make sense.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
My list of dislikes is unfortunately fairly long on this one:
1) The huge amount of ease and no real shaping combined with a very short length equalled (for me) a short, boxy and shapeless top. (I cut this in an 8 which is a size smaller than I would normally select.)
2) The shoulders/sleeves stuck out a fair amount from my actual shoulders to add to the shapeless box effect.
3) The shorter option is very short. I'm 165 cm/ 5,5" tall, so average height at best (although am pretty long waisted), however, even with the scantest hem possible this top was too short to wear with mid-low rise jeans. (As evidenced by the amount of singlet showing in the photo.)
A japanese cotton lawn.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I took in the side seams by about 2-4cm for each seam and retrofit darts to the shoulders (from the outside edge of the yoke to the point of my actual shoulder edge) after the top was completed. This was a clumsy fix but the top really stuck out too far from the shoulders in its original style.
I also subsequently unpicked the hem and added 7.5cm wide cambric lace to the hem. This has lengthened the top to a better length it but it is now a bit fussy for my liking.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Probably won't sew this again. This must be a pretty personal dislike because this top is popular but it doesn't work well for me.
I really felt that the work that went into the pleats and gathering from the yoke was not repaid in terms of the shaping of the top.
On a more humorous point, after reading a few reviewers' comments on the similarity to scrubs I think the comparison is spot on!
This pattern was not for me. It looks great in lots of the other reviews but I would really warn others that the shorter option is very short.
