|Pattern Description: |
Misses/Miss Petite 1950's Retro Dress or Jumper. I made view B.
14-22. I cut a size 16.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I think so yes. I'm not 100% happy of the final product, but it has nothing to do with the pattern, it's just me and the zipper getting into a fight, and it seems I couldn't win. I first tried to insert the zipper as instructed, but the result was horrible. I unpicked the zipper and tried again - just as bad. Unpicked the ?&%%?$ zipper again. I then opted for an invisible zipper, which went in beautifully... until I try the jumper on. For some reason, I managed to dammage some of the zipper teeth and the zipper popped open. Trying to zip it up again only caused further dammage. Unpicked the &*%&?%&?% zipper AGAIN. I then re-inserted the first zipper using my quick and dirty technique, but still making a great effort to match the back seams... somehow, that didn't work either. *SIGH*. So my seams don't match, and it bubbles up on the right side as you can see on the back picture, but I just didn't want to unpick the darn zipper again. With a belt on, no one sees the seams don't match anyway...
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, very simple. It's not a difficult pattern to put together. There are 8 darts and the upper section of the bodice is lined, but if you transfer your markings properly and if you follow the instructions for sewing and turning the lining, you won't get into trouble. I just couldn't seem to be able to insert the zipper for the life of me (see above). Nothing to do with the pattern... it's just me.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Ah, so vintage! So pretty! So stylish! I fell in love with this pattern the moment it came out, but only made it last week - finally! It can be dressed up or down - with a turtleneck for a more relaxed look, or with a sharp blouse and pearls for a more sophisticated look.
A dark teal/peacock cotton/lycra gabardine with a lot of stretch. Soft to the touch and very comfortable to wear at the office. The lining is a dark green Bemberg fabric.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I shortened the shortest view - B - by 5 cm, so the jumper hits mid-knee.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I actually might sew it again, I really want to try the full-skirted version. And hopefully do a better job with the zipper...
Anyone loving vintage and retro looks must get this pattern!
