|Pattern Description: |
Semi-fitted shirts have raised neckline, fold-back facings, darts, shaped hemline and narrow hem. A: Sleeveless. B,C: Two piece sleeves with seam opening and button cuffs.
Pattern Sizing: My measurements would have put me more in the size 12 range for the bust, waist, and hips. Using the flat pattern measurements, I decided to make an 8 through the shoulders, a 10 through the bust, and a 12 through the hips. You might want to check the flat pattern with your measurements to not have too much ease. I think the pattern allows quite a bit of ease for a semi-fitted blouse.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it did!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes! I do recommend changing the order for an easier sleeve install. Sew the side seams AFTER attaching the sleeves.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the shaping of the 12 darts in the blouse: 4 in the front waist, 2 at the bust, 4 at the back waist, and two at the neckline. The blouse makes you look slimmer than you really are because of the shaping of the darts. I also liked the unusual collar. It is only a collar in the front with no overlay at the back of the neck.
Dislikes: There is a tad too much fullness in the sleevehead. It is nearly impossible to not have puckers if you follow the instructions of sewing the side seams before attaching the sleeves. I definitely recommend sewing the sleeves in flat, before sewing the side seams.
Fabric Used: A very pretty cotton floral given to me by a very dear friend (looks very similar to a Liberty print).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made a smaller size through the shoulders to accommodate my smaller shoulders.
I wish I had taken a little bit deeper dart through the bust as you can see some wrinkling in that area.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I am sure I will sew it again. I definitely would recommend the pattern to others.
Conclusion: I love this pattern. The shaping is so nice to make one appear to have a slimmer silhouette, and the blouse is such a nice style to wear with dressy and casual garments. Even with all the darts, it really sews up quite quickly.
