Pattern Description: This is a Donna Karan pattern for a top and pants. I made the pants. This is what the pattern envelope says about the pants:
Tapered, below waist (front) pants have seam detail, overlapped lower sides, and topstitching. Close-fitting, no side seams.

Pattern Sizing: 4 - 20. (Thanks, Vogue, for offering these in smaller sizes!!) I have 34" hips, which indicate a size 10. However, I like a closer fit, so I cut a size 6. They were perfect.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the interesting seaming. I particularly liked the interesting hem details, which is an overlapped vertical slit with 4 rows of topstitching.

Fabric Used: You need to use a knit. The pattern only specifies "rayon spandex or cotton spandex", but the construction uses lapped seams, so the raw edges show. You want a double knit that won't ravel or curl. But it does need to have some stretch.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Other than using a smaller size, I did my usual flat butt alteration and removed some of the crotch length. Also, I am 5'5" and these are quite long. They have a 1" hem and I cut 3.5" from the hem before sewing the 1" hem.

That's it!

If you don't want to sew with a lapped seam, you can use conventional seams, HOWEVER, there is an inset corner that would be trickier to navigate in a conventional seam. Not impossible, but trickier.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? You betcha! I love these! I have had them on all day and don't want to take them off. They are close fitting, but comfy.

Conclusion: A great skinny pant! More on the blog.

Love these pants and the way you styled them. Enviable fit, especially the flat seat alteration. Must learn your method! The red shoes and poncho/cape/vest??? are terrific. Nice work, as always.

Thanks, Aixoise! Those are Bernie Mev shoes, made from woven elastic. I have them in red and black, but they came in lots of colors. :)

Look at you go! What interesting pants ... for once I don't own the pattern too. What weight/fiber of thread did you use for the topstitching? It's probably on the blog ... I love these kinds of details! Thanks for making sewing so much fun, if in the most part, vicariously. Tina in San Diego

Thanks, everyone!! Tina, I just used regular sewing thread for the topstitching. You certainly could use topstitching thread, but I didn't bother.

Some how I missed this review, and it was the number one pattern on my list from this collection. Sorry to hear about the raw edges, but I'll cope. Your results are fab, as usual!
