|Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, pullover top and dresses have seam detail. Narrow hem on necklines, and slits D. Designed for medium weight moderate stretch knits.|
Pattern Sizing: 8-16, I cut the 8.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Similar but I didn't do the colour-blocking.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I was immediately attracted to this pattern not only for the colour-blocking (which I do plan to make!) but for the dolman-sleeves. Gives it kind of an 80's vibe which I really like.
I like that this pattern is very easy to sew and if you don't do any modifications, you could whip this up in an evening.
As the pattern does warn you, it's *very* loose fitting. They don't have measurements printed on the pattern tissue, so I had to do some flat measurements before deciding on which size to use (which I strongly advise!. If you go by their recommendations, it'll likely swim on you!
Fabric Used: Rayon/Polyester/Spandex knit. It's SO soft and cozy This fabric was great with my modifications, but it would definitely be best to go with a more "structured" knit with more body if you're going with the colour-block version (as McCalls recommends).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Left off the colour-block detail (this time.
I added some shaping to the side seams (otherwise they're straight) and the centre-back seam by using another dress I have as a guide. I wanted the option of wearing it without a belt and not look like a sack.
I lowered the neckline as it felt a bit constricting as it was. I also widened the neckline (a bit too much I think) but I will adjust it for next time.
I used a bias strip of self fabric for a neckband instead of a facing or narrow hem, as my knit is a bit lightweight.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes! I do plan to make a colour-block version and I already have some fabric on hand for it. Now that I marked the adjustments on the pattern tissue, the next one will be faster to make.
Conclusion: I really like my new dress, I wore it to church yesterday and got some nice compliments I'm surprised there aren't more reviews yet, hopefully more will come. I think this is a great pattern!
