|Pattern Description: |
loose-fitting pullover top with variations
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
yes. i deviated slightly on the neckline finishing--you are supposed to slip stitch the tie all the way around the neckline, instead i stitched in the ditch from the outside, catching the turned in SA.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
this is a great little pattern because of all the variations. you can have a nice basic top or something trendier just by mixing up the pieces.
i used the most amazingly silky cotton lawn you could imagine. i definitely recommend using something nice and floaty, the lawn was on the upper limit of body you would want in a fabric choice.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
i made a couple flat pattern alterations that are pretty typical for me-- a 1/4" forward shoulder adjustment, and i folded out 3/8" above the bust for a petite adjustment (i'm 5' 8", but my upper body is actually petite...). this worked out perfectly; without i would have ended up with a very low neckline and gape-y armholes. for sizing, i graded from a S at the shoulder/bust to a M at the waist and down. my measurements were on the upper end of the range for these sizes, but really i could have kept it at a S through the waist and flared to the M toward the hem. then i did a curved hemline just to break up the boxiness.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
i would like to make other versions of this top (i love view B!) so hopefully i get to that in the near future. i definitely recommend the pattern, of course the sizing runs large, so if you're on the low end of the size range, consider sizing down.
this is a great top that will get lots of use! it's an easily overlooked pattern, but it's fairly quick to make (though a bit fiddly at times) and the loose fit makes it pretty forgiving. i should say, the pattern is marked easy, but the bow tie neck does require a fair bit of precision; the front part where the ties meet could easily turn into a mess! more info and pics over on the blog: notes from a mad housewife
