|Pattern Description: |
'Loose-fitting, slightly A-line dress with front zipper closing, has shaped collar and square armholes. Pockets in side front seams. Optional purchased belt and scarf.' This is a vintage pattern from the 1960s or 70s.
Size 14, bust 36".
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I changed it a bit, but yes it did.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. I wondered about vintage instructions, but they were fine.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The pattern was much longer that the picture on the envelope, so I fiddled a bit to make sure the length was going to be right. Otherwise I loved the pattern, especially the pockets in the front seam and the zip.
I used a linen blend in gold for the main part of the dress and a goldy-coloured kit fabric for the side panels.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I left off the collar for a more modern look, moved the bust darts, topstitched all the seams, reduced the length and added a knit fabric panel to the hem. I needed to take in the knit fabric side seams, probably due to the stretchiness of the fabric.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I may sew this again as it's such a cute little dress and also very comfortable. I would like a more casual version next time. I definitely recommend this dress.
I am very pleased with my first foray into vintage sewing. Thank you to Pattern Review for inspiring me with your vintage sewing contest, or I may never have done it!
