|This bag took me between 8-10 hours to complete, from choosing fabric to finished bag. I consider myself to be a medium-slow seamstress. |
The Youtube video for this bag, made by the pattern designer, is a very good description of how the bag actually goes together. Because the photos in the pattern are small and black and white, it was necessary to use the video to see what needed to be done. This is the primary reason for my lower rating.
The pattern is the equivalent of 8 pages, but printed on one large sheet of paper. This is mostly convenient, but I ran into confusing sections a couple of times because I couldn't always associate the right picture with the right instructions.
The instructions are divided into 6 steps, each with multiple sub-steps.
The hardest part of the assembly was turning the bag and getting the many corners to lie very flat. I made two mistakes, first was to sew through the center strip rather than leaving it open for a hard bag bottom, and second quilting through the same lines.
I especially loved the fold and crease technique - very helpful for centering. Also love the pocket creation method of quilting the pocket dividers.
I will make this bag again, with the following modifications - will use iron-on batting for the closure (it puffs up a little when stressed), will try more sturdy batting in the body, will try commercial leather purse handles instead of the fabric handles, will use a Decovil interfacing on future fabric handles to give it more strength.
All in all, a good solid pattern, not great. To make it great I would expect color photos and a way to prevent myself from making the mistakes.
