said... Hi Kathryn:
Your dress turned out fabulous. I have this pattern, but have not yet made it. I am pretty thin and only 5'3", and was worried that it might not have enough shaping through the midsection for me. I was planning on stealing a trick that I use with other dresses of this shape. I usually make a "butterfly clip" in the same fabric of the dress, and attach it to the back at the waistline to control the fullness. These clips were popular a few years back, and can really make the difference between a "maternity looking" dress, and a controlled a-line. Works for me.
Anyway, your review makes me want to buy some fabric and give it a whirl!! 8/19/02 6:31 PM
said... My first serged garment was this dress too! I was afraid to put the insert, thought it would look like star-trek! It doesn't at all. You look great!
When I first wore my A-line in public, I felt a little strange, like I was in a mumu..but people said it was elegant. Nice to feel so comfortable and elegant, isn't it? 8/19/02 6:54 PM
said... Thank you for all the encouragement! Michele, the idea with a "butterfly clip" sounds interesting for more shaping. I will give it a try for a variation. This dress and fabrics are amazing, as the dress looks chic although it is unshaped. 8/19/02 9:27 PM
