Vogue 1369 Dress Pattern Sizing:
8 - 16 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, but the fabric I used made the yoke look different. It doesn't lay on the shoulders the same as the dress on the pattern envelope Were the instructions easy to follow?
The only difficult section was attaching the dress to the lining at the shoulders. The left shoulder band does not look the same on the photo as it does in the one illustration in the directions and there are no illustrations of the front of the dress after the lining is attached. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I didn't like the gathering in the back of the dress so I used the lining pattern pieces for both the outer shell and the lining fabric, remembering to cut the outer shell longer. I also thought the illustrations were lacking in clarity. I was able to use my past experiences to visualize and so understand the directions. Fabric Used:
Suede - 100% polyester and velvet Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made the yoke and left sleeve detail out of a velvet.
I also created an exposed zipper to give the back some interest since I decided against the gathering. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would sew it again but probably in a cotton or linen fabric that would form to my shape better and would have a more casual look. Conclusion:
This was a fun project because it gave me the opportunity to use techniques I had been wanting to use for a while (the exposed zipper and contrasting yoke). I also fell in love with the suede fabric and was thrilled to find a dress that would show it off. I made the clutch (Simplicity 4675 copyright 2005) as a last minute accessory with the left over fabric.
