|Pattern Description: There are 2 shirts in this pattern, a cardigan and a t-shirt. This review is for the shirt pattern modified into a long dress with a scoop front. |
Pattern Sizing: Jalie patterns provide sizes from toddler 2 to adult plus size. They have an amazing range. The newer patterns are now color coded to make tracing much simpler and easier to follow.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? No, we modified the shirt into a long dress.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are clear to follow, but we do not need them anymore as my husband and I have made this pattern countless times. This pattern was a part of a course we took at Club Tissus on Stretch fabrics.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This pattern is the one my husband and I use for my turtlenecks, mock turtlenecks, our scoop neck shirts, and my dresses. I love that the pattern is easily transformed into so many other designs. I have bought many, many patterns in the past and now that I know how to manipulate patterns I do not need so many anymore!
Fabric Used: My husband found a gorgeous stretch knit velour at Stretch Text Fabrics this past summer. We were extremely tight in fabric for the dress we wanted to make, and we made things slightly more complicated than needed. To make a long story short, the fold line was not placed properly and the dress was cut out incorrectly. We had to scrap it. He went back to St-Laurent and Chabanel and bought me more material, what a LOVE! This material is a nice stretch velour. On the wrong side of the material it is nice a slippery. It make the garment hang nicely.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: My husband made this dress for my Christmas present for me on Christmas morning. He made my sleeves 3/4 length, he designed the front scoop, and he removed 1 cm from the back neck. He made the shirt long down to past my knees. He made the collar with 5cm strip of the same fabric and he installed it using the Chanel technique. He sewed the sides with a straight stitch. I tried it on inside out and he pinned the sides from my under my arm down to my knees. He marked both sides equally and sewed it. When he perfected his fit, he serged the sides.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? We have made this pattern numerous times, from a v neck shirt, mock turtleneck to 3 different dresses now. We will make my New Years dress from a gorgeous fabric we got that is a sparkly velour.
Conclusion: My husband and I have been getting the most out of this pattern, and the class we took at Club Tissus. I would recommend this pattern as it can be easily changed to suit your design inspirations!
