|Pattern Description: In the words of Maria Denmark patterns "Edith is a mid 50s inspired - but absolutely timeless - blouse or shirtdress, with softly rounded collar and lapels....The kimono sleeved Edith has back shoulder darts and waist darts front and back, as well as bust darts - giving a fitted, but not overly fitted look.|
Pattern Sizing:34 -346
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes, they are relatively brief, but they were fine for me. I reckon this dress could be tackled by a relative beginner, but I would only do so with a good sewing reference book at my elbow to help me get a good finish.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love this pattern - it has so much going for it: overall fit ; the fact that it is vintage inspired without looking like a costume; you can dress it up or down according to your fabric selection; the kimono sleeve, which de-emphasises my long arms; the fact you can easily wear a cardi over it.
Fabric Used:Cotton lawn
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No design alterations, but quite a few fit changes, including an FBA, repositioning front darts, adding a centre back seam, a swayback adjustment, eliminating the shoulder darts, and lengthening 5cm.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Absolutely, this a great, wearable, versatile shirtdress. Not too difficult to execute, either.
Conclusion: I love the Edith, and will make more, both the blouse and dress versions of this pattern.
