Pattern Description: Very close fitting pull-on pants have crotch gusset, wide waistbands with elastic, twinneedle top-stitching. View A: Mid-calf length with leg gusset in outside seam. View B: Full length with waistband insets.
This review covers both views
Pattern Sizing: XS - XL. View A is a closer fit than view B. To gauge my size, I measured the hip on the pattern and pin marked that width on a double layer of fabric - they wrapped it around my hips to see how firm or loose it was. I made a size smaller than the size chart suggested.
Fabric Used: The pattern recommends fabric with 75% stretch. I used a heavy weight cotton lycra. The grey shorts are made from a cotton French terry with only 25% stretch. I went up a size for these.
Instructions: I don't think the instructions are up to the normal KS standard. The insertion of the gussets are very cumbersome. It is easier sew/serge the gusset to one side and then sew the sides together.
View A I was very disappointed with these and did not finish them off. The pattern drawing is incorrect wrt the placement of the side seam. It starts at the back and curves forward at the upper thigh (the opposite is shown in the drawing). The curve is subtle so it looked to me like a straight seem being pulled forward. I have "cyclists legs" so this seam just made my quads look even bigger. Fine if your lining up for a track sprint and trying to psych out the opposition but not a good look any other time.
I did like the leg gusset and thought it is a good candidate for colour blocking. I modified my TNT Ottobre Clara pattern to include the gusset. photo (review including instructions for drafting a leg gusset)
View B I really liked this pattern. It has a curved waistband, straight side seam and a slightly tapered leg. I made these as shorter versions for summer.
For the grey shorts, I added a welt pocket on the right side to hold a key or MP3 player. The back facing of the pocket is attached to the waistband to stop the pocket sagging. grey shorts
Likeness to pattern photo/drawing: View A is incorrect. See comment above
Likes & Dislikes: I guess I was a bit disappointed with this pattern initially. It is the first KS pattern I've made since they were sold. Flimsy tissue patterns, incorrect drawings and unhelpful pattern instructions - it is just NOT the KwikSew we knew & loved!
However View B redeems the pattern somewhat. I like the cut of this pattern and the crotch gusset is very comfortable to wear.
Sew again? Recommend it? I'd sew view B again but wouldn't recommend view A.
