|Pattern Description: Misses hats mittens and shawl designed for heavyweight stretch knits Hats in two styles one with brim one like a beanie.|
Pattern Sizing: small 21"/ 53 cm; medium 22"/56 cm; large 23"/58 cm.
I made the beanie style hat in 3 sizes and the mitts in two sizes.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes although I added embellishments
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?Likes: Very quick to cut out and sew. Useful for gifts. I love the old Kwik Sew patterns with sturdy pattern paper and I trace off all three sizes to keep the pattern in a new condition. Dislikes-none.
Fabric Used: Purple fleece, grey fleece and Faux sheepskin material from Leon's fabrics in Chorlton, Manchester UK. This shop has a huge range of fabrics and the staff are helpful. I made the purple fleece for one daughter, the grey for my other married daughter and her husband.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I trimmed the daughters' cuffs with faux sheepskin and the son in law had polartec fleece deeper grey trim, recycled from an old scarf. The fleece doesn't fray but I edged the mitts with a small zig-zag stitch to neaten them. I sewed the hats and mitts on my memorycraft 10000 using a walking foot and ballpoint needle. But being too lazy to change the thread, I sewed the sheepskin cuff onto the mitt using my Vintage Singer 28 hand crank machine with a straight stitch and straight stitch throat plate. This old girl (1895) sailed through all layers just like butter!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would love to make more maybe in a fun fleece fabric.
Conclusion: The pattern is very quick and easy to cut out and sew up.I think you could add leather trim, suede, felt etc and make many different looks.
