Pattern Description:
Jacket Express is a grown-up version of the blue jean jacket.
Pattern Sizing:
XXS-4XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes it did.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions are terrific, but I purchased this pattern as part of a Craftsy class. Sew Better, Sew Faster The class includes the pattern and I got it on sale for 19.99. I see it for sale here on pattern review without the class. I definitely would not have had such a great result without the class. I propped my IPad up next to me and sewed along with Janet.
It was fun sewing along and took the stress out of learning new techniques. I conquered topstitching and welt pockets. Janet covers no pin sewing, pressing tools and techniques, welt pockets, topstitching, construction order, even sewing ergonomics. All designed to "sew Better, Sew Faster". I have to say I'm a fan of her methods. The topstitching order was particularly easy without too much stopping to change needles and threads.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love the instructions booklet. Nice sturdy booklet with glossy finished pages. The pattern was well drafted. The XXS is a recent addition and my pattern was missing some pieces. I was directed to the website to download these pieces. I had trouble and called the company and got Janet herself on the other end! Turns out it wasn't me, it was the download that had problems. She fixed it and then called me the next day to make sure I was all set. Great customer service!
Fabric Used:
Beautiful blue lightweight corduroy with a damask print. From JoAnn's.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would definitely recommend it to others if you like the style. It really isn't my style so I probably will not make again, at least not for myself. But the process was very worthwhile. You do need some sewing experience to make this jacket. I would say advanced beginner and above. And maybe a little buttonhole experience for sure. There are 9 buttons. In the first picture I am wearing it with my Jalie jeans and a vogue tee, soon to be reviewed. Doing this class just before making the Jalie jeans pattern was a benefit when it came to topstitching the jeans. I had a lot of practice.

Great jacket. I bought this course so have the pattern. It's too advanced for me just now though, given how you rate it.

Great results. I watched the class but haven't sewn it yet. I agree with you about Islander, they are top notch. Thanks for posting your pics. You've inspired me to get the pattern out.

Really, really great looking jacket. I love the Kwik Sew jeans style jacket pattern but I'm tempted to buy the class to learn the Islander techniques.

Very nice looking jacket for a jean style! Your choice of fabric made a big difference, your top stitching really sets it off as well!
